It covers the council area Argyll and Bute except for the Isle of Bute itself and the area to the south and west of Loch Lomond which is part of Dunbartonshire. Argyllshire sits on the western seaboard of Scotland. The town of Oban, is referred to as the "Gateway to the Isles" and is also the unofficial capital of the West Highlands.
